The only problem I had was getting it delivered. For whatever reason, it required an adult signature so UPS would not leave it and I had to pay extra to reschedule a delivery date when I was not at work.

(More customer reviews)For the price, this is a great bookshelf. It's easy to put together. It had some minor damages, some weird discolored areas but they are not noticeable.
They were mostly on the back of the bookshelf. It might look like it doesn't hold much weight, but it actually does. I have a 32 inch plasma TV that weighs about 30 lbs on the top shelf. Overall I think this is a great product. It goes great with other espresso furniture I have.

I also was expecting a rougher bristle pad, like the one I used cleaning my boyfriend's bathroom (which is what inspired me to buy one for mine). It gets recent messes or light grime off, but am still using a brillo or rough sponge to get anything more off. Maybe it works better for other people, but for me, I wish I hadn't bought it.

(More customer reviews)This is a nice bookshelf for the money. It however is not solid oak which I had believed it to be. The stats said it was 150 lbs but it was only 75. The finish on the wood is dark brown to black, but it also has silver looking wood finish to give it the look of natural wood. All together it is still a nice sturdy shelf that was easy to put together, but not as nice a shelf as I would have expected.

But I combined the bookshelf with a "Hooked on Phonics" 30-book learning system, and my granddaughter has been having a ball playing 'school' with it. If you want to foster a love of books in a child, I suggest that you combine this gift with a set of age-appropriate books or a bunch of children's magazine subscriptions, and you'll have a winning gift! It is fairly easy to assemble. (I wasn't sure what Rubberwood was when I ordered it, but it is a smooth heavy durable wood.)

(More customer reviews)A very nice quality bookcase. Pretty easy to assemble IF you read the instructions properly as there is a certain order in which the assembly has to take place. (I didn't). Very smooth, nice quality wood - pieces all joined together no problem once I figured out the proper way to assemble it. I am thinking about purchasing 2 more for a different room in my house. Only problem I had was that the plastic cover buttons that should fit over the screw holes to hide them were not the right size and would not stay in the hole provided, so I had to leave those off. It is not really that noticeable though.

It's a great little bookshelf, easy to put together and pretty darn sturdy, not to mention about half to a third of the price you would pay for any other bookshelf like it. The only drawback is that it must be placed against a wall or flat surface, or you risk your books falling out the back. Otherwise, awesome bang for your buck.
