(More customer reviews)Well, the bed arrived when promised, and the design was what we hoped for. Thats the extent of the good news. The first bit of bad news is that this bed is made of the softest wood I've ever seen -- even the slightest bump would leave a large dent (e.g. dropping a small screwdriver during assembly from a height of less than 2 feet). Great for a kids room, right? Worse, the bed has serious offgassing problems. After weeks (yes, weeks) of trying to get the odor to go away (leaving the window open, then having a fan on it, then having a dehumidifier in the room with the window closed), the harsh (and likely toxic) smell of the wood/finish continued to dominate the room. So we finally gave up and deconstructed the bed. And when we contacted the seller about the problem? They only accept returns within 3 days of shipment, and only if the item hasn't been assembled. Yeah. Thus, you're left to guess when you open the box: are all the parts are included? are there structural problems? will the smell go away? Don't repeat our mistake in buying this.

(More customer reviews)This is a great product and is very sturdy! Me and my husband were very pleased with the finished product and both of my sons love it too. There is one con, but it is only slight which is why I still give it five stars. The assembly was a little bit difficult, even for my husband who is a carpenter. None of the pieces are labelled so you have to figure out (and some times the hard way) which pieces belong to the bottom and which pieces belong to the top bunks (there are slight differences in the headboard and the footboard of each bunk for the large peg to connect the two together). The instruction manual was very vague and the screws that they describe using was also very vague. It took awhile to figure out which screws were which. Other than the assembly part which took probably 5 hours for us to put together, the product is fine! I would go through the hassle again to get the end product I did. The slats hold my five year old and one and a half year old perfectly, but we will probably change out to 2x4's for slats when they get in their teens. Also the drawers are very deep and very wide. I was extremely happy with them!!! As the other comment said, the drawers are not connected to the bed and roll up under the bed. I prefer to have the drawers this way, so this was not a problem for me. Very happy with this bunk bed and it will last for years to come!

(More customer reviews)The wood feels like brown painted foam in your hands. Its not pine, its probably poplar. It is absolutely unsafe and it will not last. I built it out with no trouble. I'm 200 pounds and I've never been able to get on even the lower bunk without feeling lots of creaking. If you are considering this bed, PLEASE - do yourself one favor and go to a furniture store and sit on one. Jump on one. Note the confidence and weight. Order this bunk bed and as soon as you feel the material you will notice none of that.
I climbed onto the top bunk to test it out and immediately one side rail developed a crack. We reinforced it with a steel bracket but we took it down because we no longer trusted it and if someone falls from it we'd much rather it be from one foot rather then four. My wife, pregnant but still long 125 pounds, sat on a different rail the other day, and it broke clean in half!
Don't make the same mistake we did. Stay away from this one.

(More customer reviews)The bed arrived in four boxes with over 20 pieces of wood, not counting slats, which were unmarked. We had to identify each piece before we were able to begin assembly. We had to go through all the instruction pages, trying to differentiate between pieces, many of which looked similar. This took one and a half hours. None of the pieces had identifying marks to match the numbers in the instructions. There were no written instructions, only diagrams. Several times we had to disassemble when we discovered after the fact that pieces that looked the same had been installed improperly. The screw holes were not drilled very deep and the wood is very hard, which necessitated additional drilling. It took two people 5-5 1/2 hours to assemble the bed. You should note that the bed must fit in the room as pictured. We tried to reconfigure the bed to change the location of the headboard and steps but had to disassemble and reassemble in the original configuration.

Honey Full Bookcase Captain's Bed Configuration: 3 Drawers + 1 Trundle Unit Review

(More customer reviews)I just got the bed put together and it is a great bed design for a small room with limited storage. It is fairly easy to put together and one person can do it, although there is a point that a second person would come in real handy.
It is sturdy, however, I wouldn't recommend letting your kid jump on it, because the bookcase does rock a little - you could sturdy it up with extra brackets, or by affixing to the wall if this is a concern.
The drawers attach to the frame of the bed, however the trundle is free and on wheels, so it can slide further under the bed and won't be aligned with the frame unless you are very carefull not to move it. The drawers are not real big, but great for extra storage.
Overall it will work great for my daughter's room. She will be able to have friends over and they can have their own bed, plus the full size bed on top will be big enough until she is ready to go out on her own.

(More customer reviews)The bed is made of good quality materials and the fit and finish are good. However, the assembly instructions leave much to be desired. No text with the picture instructions and sometimes the pictures can be confusing about which parts are involved in the assembly. The parts are not marked or labeled so sometime it's an educated guess. Also, we highly recommend using a power screw driver to assemble the bed. Set it on a low power setting. Two people are recommended for assembly and that proved right.
Our granddaughters love their new bed and it should last them many years considering the quality. We would recommend this product but caution about the confusing assembly instructions and the heavy weight of the shipping containers and finished bed.
