It seemed like it was packaged well, so I'm not sure if the damage happened in transit (maybe someone dropped it not realizing it weighs 150lbs) or before. The third party vendor they used ignored my instructions to leave the package at the front desk of my building and instead kept calling me at 7 am on a Saturday morning for me to come downstairs. Then he told me he would not move it. If he'd left it at the desk I could have picked it up when I was prepared rather than wrestling this thing up to my apartment in my pajamas. I suppose this isn't exactly the company's fault, but they could have used standard shipping like ups instead of this vendor.
Once it was opened, we discovered the cracked pieces. Although the company responded promptly and politely to my request for replacement pieces, the pieces didn't arrive for two weeks. Thankfully those pieces arrived intact. The quality was pretty much what I expected- it's not solid wood, but it looks fine. The finish on some pieces was chipped. By that time I didn't care; I was just happy to have something that would hold books.
In the end, I'm happy enough with the bookcase. But, if I had to do it over again, I'd pick something else and not endure the hassle.
