Prepac Grande Locking Audio Video Storage Cabinet - VS-0287 Review

Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)This was purchased as a Christmas gift for my parents to store their DVD's. The cabinet was full as shown in the picture. It was great until 6 months later when the hinges started to deform causing the doors to sag. Now when you open the doors they drag along the base and scuff the finish. Larger hinges are needed to carry the weight of a full door of DVD's.

Prepac Black Large Locking Media (DVD,CD,Games) Storage Cabinet Review

Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)I'm not sure why the previous reviewer had so many difficulties with scratches and the sturdiness of this cabinet - either it wasn't handled or packed right when it was shipped or it simply wasn't put together correctly because I have nothing but positive things to say about this unit.
I bought this to store my fairly large videogame collection which I had been storing in a bookshelf at least a foot taller and 6 inches wider, and my main purpose for buying it was for the locking door (I have a 2 year old who has been trashing my collection on a near daily basis - so locking this stuff up once and for all was my goal). Imagine my surprise when the collection that had been OVERFLOWING my much larger bookshelf, fit nice and neatly into this cabinet WITH AN ENTIRE DOOR OF SPACE STILL AVAILABLE!!!! WOW!
The only negative I can possibly muster up would be the slide bolt on the door that doesn't have the lock. It's in an awkward position and the screws they supply for attaching it are MUCH too short (my 9 year old manager to break it off on the first day by pulling the door too hard) - so, I went out and bought some longer screws and all is well.
I would say my only regret would be getting it in black - now that it's up and in use, I'm not OVERLY enthused about the color choice. But this is merely a personal opinion, certainly not an issue with the cabinet or it's craftsmanship. Suffice to say, I will be buying another black one soon to match this and get rid of my other bookshelf that's currently holding all of my DVDs and CDs...

A Solid Wood, Fully Assembled CD/DVD Cabinet Review

Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)The cabinet is small but you can fit about five dvds in each drawer. The DVDs face upwards, so this purchase is for your dvd favorites or for a home office or bedroom.
The work is beautifully crafted, and the company is professional! So, if you have cherry wood in your home, you'll want one!

Beautiful Espresso finish Solid Wood CD/DVD Cabinet Review

Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)This product is made of quality material and looks great when put together. It is not chintzy; the doors are sturdy and feel as though they will last a long time.
However, I am very disappointed in the fixed shelves. In the product description it says that it is a CD/DVD cabinet with 5 adjustable shelves and 2 fixed shelves. No problem, right? Unless you are purchasing this for storing dvds only, like I did. I was extremely disappointed to find that the 2 fixed shelves are not tall enough to store dvds in an upright position. Since I organize my dvds in alphabetical order and really don't like the way they look laying on their sides, there are 2 shelves that I can't use at all for dvd storage. I have had to fill them with decorative tchotchke, instead. Also, when the description says that it holds 248 dvds, it actually means it holds 248 dvds ONLY IF if you elect to put them sideways on the 2 fixed shelves. Since I didn't want to do that, all of my dvds don't fit in the case. Now I am faced with either buying a second one, or shelving my tv on dvd sets somewhere else in the house, when the whole point of purchasing this piece was to have all of my dvds in one place, on one pretty shelf. If I had been able to tell that from the description, I would have purchased a different cabinet.

Contemporary Espresso Finish CD & DVD Storage Cabinet Review

Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)We bought this piece to streamline the look of our living room and I believe it's done just that. It has a modern/classic look and LOTS of storage room. So far we stored our DVD collection (~100 dvds) and the VHS's we're holding on to (~30), plus a few other random pieces (extra remotes, screen cleaning supplies etc) and there's still a TON of room for addition. For us, this was a great buy. BEWARE however, if you are not so handy (like my wonderful husband is) this takes ALOT of do it yourself, put together the million little pieces they send you in the box. I suspect that it would be easy to come out with the doors looking lopsided etc if the construction isn't done perfectly. Also, the design is slightly flawed in that there are obvious screws showing on the side where the shelves are held in place. Not a big deal-breaker for me, but thought I'd let you know.

SEI Sliding Door Media Cabinet Review

Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)upsides:
looks pretty hot with the rest of our furniture.
is a little smaller than i imagined, so it fits well into the space i'd thought it might be too big for.
downsides:
didn't get the correct pieces, and had to contact the vendor and that took about 2 weeks, so if i was in a huge hurry, that would've stunk.
took over an hour to set up, which is all sorts of crazy.
quality and cost of item are incongruous.
the way it's designed, it's almost impossible to get at the movies in the very center of any rows.
overall:
i got a touch less than what i expected.

Essex Bookcase W/glass Doors Review

Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)Firstly beware of very poor quality control of knockdown items manufactured in china. Top of unit was missing threaded holes where cambolts are threaded into. Second. instructions are very poorly transcribed from chinese. Unless very mechanicaly inclined it may be extremely difficult to understand and visualize construction Steps. Third. Screwing the shelf brackets to the shelves will be extremely difficult for most as it is very awkward Positioning. I do not recomend purchasing this product unless you are mechanicaly inclined.

Prepac Black Double Barrister Media (DVD,CD,Games) Storage Rack Review

Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)I am very happy with this shelf system:
1) Easy to assemble: all parts matched together well
2) Shelves hold lots of CDs/DVDs, as advertised, and are easily adjustable.
3) It feels very sturdy - I did not attach it to the wall.
4) Importantly, it looks better than the usual crappy DIY furniture. Because of the dark color, it is hard to tell from a few feet away that it's not made from real wood. Of course, if you're unlucky and your package gets damaged during shipment, I can imagine the boards are pretty fragile; however, there's a marker enclosed to touch up scratches and such.
If I had to find faults, I would say that instructions for nailing the back board are intended for a single wide sheet instead of two sheets that are enclosed. I recommend using more nails than suggested in the cartoon assembly picture (there are more than enough nails included)
Another benefit is that there is both a double and single versions available, so you can mix and match, depending on your room geometry/setup.

Winsome Wood CD/DVD Cabinet with Glass Doors, Antique Walnut Review

Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)I bought this cabinet and I'm somewhat dissatisfied.
The assembly is not complicated, it uses bolts with cam locks.
PRO's: Finish, color, enclosed to keep dust out.
CON's: poor door hinge design; it's too small and spacing for DVD's is very restrictive.
The doors do not close evenly and make contact with the shelving.
DVD space is lost because of the top door magnets.
Summary: nice looks but lack of spacing between DVD/shelves and doors causes problems with proper clsosing. Everything is very tightly packed.

Altra 9463096 Audio Pier/Bookcase, Espresso Review

Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)Was ok to put together. Looks good. The only thing I don't understand is that it has no cutouts for cables? How are you to run cables with out cutouts. I had to cut holes in the back to run the cables.

Windowpane Sliding Glass Door Cabinet, 576 cd/92 dvd, Expresso, P1 Review

Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)Over the past year I've discovered that it can be an arduous task to find quality media storage, and I can assure the curious consumer that price is no indication of quality. These Windowpane shelves, however, retail for around $150 and I've been reasonably pleased with them.
The finish is very nice, it's nearly black with a subtle woodtone, and the unit as a whole just looks great. The sliding glass doors work well, though items placed in the middle where the two doors intersect are difficult to access.
The one major quality complaint is that the shelves will slightly bow over time, especially if they're used to hold television DVD sets (which I do). Most media storage units are actually designed with compact discs in mind, so if you stock them with DVDs you find the bottom shelf will be too small to stand the DVDs up and you'll have to lay them on their sides. This one, however, holds all of the DVDs perfectly upright as it's supposed to.
I agree with the reviewer here that it's a good idea to buy locally if possible, the packaging isn't very protective. Assembly time will be approximately an hour, possibly shorter if you're accustomed to assembling DIY furniture.
As always, buyer beware! I bought another media storage unit from Atlantic thinking it would be the same quality as this one, and it most certainly was not (the unit I refer to is the Atlantic Drawbridge - Media storage cassette, VHS, DVD, CD, you can read my review of that piece of trash by following the link).

Atlantic Drawbridge DRA280MM03 280 CD/112 DVD/BluRay/Games Wood Cabinet (Black) Review

Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)I read the other reviews before ordering, and thought to myself, "Heck, for right at $30, even if they are flimsy, it's better than just stacking my DVD's on the floor!" I'm really pleased!!! I read the one review about using the glue - so when I put mine together, I put glue in the slot for the back, and believe me, I think they are wonderful! It went together in about 15 minutes (and then I let it sit for another 45 for the glue to dry) - took me longer to sort my DVD's than to put the cases together! They are small enough to fit into that nook or cranny, but big ehough to hold a lot! One little note, though, you can't get 5 rows of DVD's in one. (It looks like you can in the pictures - but they won't fit!) I got 4 rows of 28 DVD's per row - could have probably shoved one more in per row, but for $30, I'll just buy another one!
