(More customer reviews)Great looking case but there is a very serious design fault of the main supporting components of the unit itself. The reliability of the whole bookcase lie with twelve support points, six on each of the two side panels of the case. The three main cross members (in this case (a), (B), and (G) which are the top of the unit, the bottom shelf, and the non-moveable shelf (b) constitute the main structural strength of the unit. Now here is the real problem, the twelve support "Quick Fit Dowel" pins items # 140 are small metal rods surrounded at the base by a thin plastic screw that screw into pre-drilled holes in the side panels, and you are instructed to screw them in "by Hand" ONLY. In my case of putting the unit together only four of the twelve screwed in with a secure , snug fit, the remaining eight the holes where either too large or the screw did not catch until the last two turns, therefore they wiggled in the hole. Therefore the entire integrity of this bookcase is severely compromised. In the old bookcases that I had replaced these cases with, the dowels was an all metal threaded screw that had to be screwed into the wood with a screwdriver. Also on the Saunders Bookcase (the ones that I wished I had back) the supports that held the shelves were also metal, the ones on these SouthShore are plastic, here to again another cheap design. Overall these cases should not be on the market and are definitely overpriced. I had ordered three of these but only one arrived first, you can be sure that the order is cancelled and this one is on its way back.
