(More customer reviews)I ordered two based on the reviews of the product I found elsewhere. I have assembled one bookcase and it looks acceptably good. Assembly was relatively straightforward and the instructions were easy to follow. The assembly instructions come in the longer of the two boxes that are shipped - don't use the ones in the shorter box. Much of the "hardware" is plastic meaning the shelves probably will not hold all that much weight.
The top to the bookcase in the first box I opened was damaged, but not so much that I want to bother with a return. The backing is cardboard. One of the shelves seemed like it was cardboard too - just very thick cardboard with laminate over it. The assembled bookcase is also very wobbly and I am trying to figure out how to stabilize it and prevent it from tipping over - it does not come with anti-tip hardware.
I have a variety of bookcases - a fancy cherry one I adore and did not have to assemble, a Cameron set from Pottery Barn which is very secure and is not about to tip over, 3 24"x84" from Safco because I needed ones to fit into tight spaces, and these. These were the cheapest - both in price and in quality (as one might expect). I had been hoping for something along the Safco lines because the Prepac was on sale, but it is really a notch below.
