(More customer reviews)The shelf unit arrived in a timely manner, well packaged and undamaged . . . but "Cherry Finish" is very misleading and the customer should be told that it is not real wood, but rather some sort of MDF (fibrous pulp held together with waxes and or glues). I wanted to modify mine to place it on top of a corner desk unit and though the "wood" has a deceptively convincing "grain" pressed into its surface, when cutting it quickly becomes clear that it is not real wood. Had I known, I would not have purchased this product. MDF off gasses ureas and formaldehydes (VOC's) and having already survived cancer, we have consciously attempted to limit these toxins in our home. Also, in very low humidity environments as Southern California is prone to (Santa Ana winds of less than 10% RH) MDF will shrink and connections will become loose, when the slack is taken up and the material swells again it can split the material. It also is easily ruined if gotten wet. Like so much "cheap stuff" you find nowadays: it looks good for a while or from a distance, but you're buying a pig in a poke. Caveat Emptor.
