It holds all the toys that the parents "leave at Nana's House"...namely those that we as grandparents purchase to get back at our children for everything they put us through, yup the Noise makers! Dang but that backfired didn't it?? I love the drawers underneath, they hold markers, legos, coloring books, all that little stuff that usually gets lost at the bottom of such big toyboxes! Love this toybox, so do my kids, they want it at their houses!

Step2 Bookcase Storage Chest Review

(More customer reviews)Please take a close look at what you're buying. It is no longer the one-piece unit. This storage chest was redesigned by Step 2, and I wish it hadn't been! There are two main problems now-- first is that the bookshelf is not as deep, which means it can store only small books. Don't know about you, but about half of my daughter's books are fairly big hardcovers. They won't fit.
The other problem is that it now comes in two pieces that you have to screw together. I was really surprised to see that when you assemble it, the two screws simply stick out into the toybox... there is no covering over them, so if your child reaches in or climbs in, they could get hurt on these screws. For purely aesthetic reasons, I also prefer the one-piece design.
I don't have the old model to compare it to, but I am told the plastic is also flimsier in the new model. I know that I can actually see through the white plastic (I can tell what toys are inside it), so that doesn't give me a whole lot of confidence.
All that said, I still prefer it to most other toyboxes. The toybox is roomy and cute. My 2-year-old has no problem opening it or reaching her books off the shelf, and even though I'm annoyed that it's not deep enough, I'm glad there is a shelf anyway.

(More customer reviews)This is the most adorable bookcase. Considering the prices I came across in my search for a bookcase for my 3 year old's bedroom, this was a pleasant surprise. I was going to buy this online but the shipping cost is not insignificant. If you have a Target within a reasonable distance, you might want to pick this up. I was lucky to get the last one at my local Target store. I much prefer it to having a traditional nondescript bookcase. It's different but still simple. It's not overpoweringly cutesy. It's not flimsy, it's rather sturdy and fits in very nicely with her decor. When the bookcase was finished, I noticed that the "roof" did not meet seamlessly in the center. It's not really a problem but it was the only imperfection in an otherwise perfect bookcase. I definitely recommend it.

(More customer reviews)I bought this item at Target, but really like this bookcase so I thought I'd write a review since people probably browse through Amazon before buying a product (I know I do).
I needed an easy way to help organize my room, and this bookcase fit the bill. I was also interested in it to place under a window as a good way to utilize otherwise wasted space. When I first went to Target, it had already sold out, so I took that as a good indication of the popularity and quality of this product.
Given the price, I was expecting the construction to be on the cheap side, but it's better quality than I was expecting - the composite wood feels sturdy, and the overall construction feels strong. It isn't wobbly at all. I have no qualms about putting a really heavy all-in-one printer on it.
The assembly was also very easy. The instructions were clear and I had no problems putting this together by myself. The only tools you need are a hammer and screwdriver. You could probably put it together in less than an hour. I actually had fun putting it together. But I'm kind of weird and enjoy doing hands-on crafty stuff. :)
The main thing to note is that the back panels aren't made of wood and are actually cardboard that's been painted black. I thought that was kind of tacky, at first, but I don't mind it since it kept the cost down (I bought this for $40). Plus, you wouldn't notice it in a room since it's in shadow anyway.
I think the fabric drawers are a great addition to this bookcase, but are not necessary to make full use of it. Still, if you can get them cheap (I got them for about $5 each, maybe even $3 due to a sale) I'd recommend them, as they really look nice with the case. :)
So if you want an easy, nice looking, cheap case that just works and holds all your junk, I'd heartily recommend this one. It also gives my room a slightly modern edge to it that I love. :)
