Assembly was a snap and didn't require extra tools (the structure's poles are separated into sections and screw into each other forming each level.) The wood is sturdy and thick, and seems to be able to support a decent amount of weight. It comes with baseboard hooks to secure the unit from tipping to prevent tipping over, however, I haven't installed these since the unit seems very stable already. Oh yeah, and it looks nice too :) For $31, I am definitely very happy with the purchase and would recommend the shelf to anyone looking for a budget priced, quality corner shelf.
